Under Spanish legislation (El Real Decreto 287/2002 de 22 de Marzo which updates la Ley 50/1999 de 23 de Diciembre, about legally owning potentially dangerous animals establishes the legal obligation for the owners to have Civil Liability insurance of at least 120,000 euros.

B ... 125,000 euros per claim and year insured ... 106,30 euros / year* (per dog)
C ... 150,000 euros per claim and year insured ... 116,93 euros / year* (per dog)
D ... 180,000 euros per claim and year insured... 138,19 euros / year* (per dog)
E ... 300,000 euros per claim and year insured... 170,08 euros / year* (per dog)

* the premium will be adjusted on renewal in line with the official cost of living index (Índice de Precios al Consumo publicado por el Instituto Nacional de Estadística).

Excess (payable by the owner for claims involving material danage) ... 150 euros

Documentation needed to issue the policy:

- Photocopy of the documentation recording details of the animal and the vet's stamp / signature
- Photocopy of the necessary licence regarding ownership of dangerous animals.
